There Are Places I Remember

"Grand Hotel, Mobile Bay", 16x20, Oil, SOLD.  A couple of winters ago, I snapped this photo as our plein-air workshop took a lunch break. Thinking it might make a painting of a memorable spot, I used it as reference for a painting demonstration in Alabama at an art-event for snow-birds this winter. Then, just finished it on my new studio easel today.
Recently I shared the most delicious covered dish luncheon with "Artists by the Bay" at a gorgeous residence overlooking Mobile Bay. That's when chat of the oil-spill was still in the hopefully-it-won't-reach-us stage.
Back to the Grand Hotel in Point Clear: it's a beautifully landscaped luxury Marriott with spa. I got to stay there once, and remember- it was the day they dethroned the statue of Saddam. That was the news as I got ready to go out for dinner.

Now that is so entertaining. The painting came out so fresh-looking as if you were there on the spot painting it, Jill. It is a good size and looks marvelous there on your easel!

Love the feeling of the place in this one. And I'm always at the mercy of that blue. Beautiful.

Hi Jill!.... Just back from Scotland... but had to make a short visit to your site!

Thank "You" for your encouraging comments!

Love the texture... colour and edges in your work! Your site is a joy to behold!

Strange... how our pictures evoke... "places we remember"... the Beatle tune... a personal favourite of mine.

"We" are certainly on the very same page in our lives... "You" and "I"!

Good Painting!
Warmest regards,

Beautiful colors.

Isn't painting such a special way of keeping those memories? Especially when you can add your own feelings about the place to the canvas right along with the paint.

Lovely painting, Jill.

When I look back on these blogging years... your friendships and notes will always brighten my day! Any thoughts of vulnerability- exposing art, thoughts, feelings, studio, life... is always met with your kindness.
Thank You!
